Alexander Schaefer is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University at Buffalo. His research focuses on social complexity, institutional evolution, and the social contract, often integrating philosophy with social science methodologies. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Arizona and a BA in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Before joining UB, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at New York University's Classical Liberal Institute. His work spans subfields including Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE), with publications in journals such as Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and American Journal of Political Science.
He teaches courses on the History of Political Economy, the Social Contract, and Social Philosophy. Office hours are available by appointment.
