David Emmanuel Gray is an Associate Teaching Professor of Philosophy at the University at Buffalo's Department of Philosophy, housed within the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on social/political philosophy, ethical theory, and decision theory, with teaching emphases on conflict resolution, business ethics, and leadership ethics. He holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University and bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy and Computer Science from the University of Montana.
Previously, Gray spent over a decade in Qatar, developing the philosophy curriculum and ethics minor at Carnegie Mellon University's branch campus (CMU-Q). He taught undergraduate and executive education courses at institutions including Georgetown’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and delivered talks on sustainability reporting, corporate responsibility, and religious tolerance (including a TEDx talk). He co-organized community deliberative forums and capstone projects like the Buffalo SOUP initiative, emphasizing civic engagement through the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) program.
His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Philosophy of Social Sciences, Negotiation & Conflict Resolution, and Business, Society & Ethics. He also advises the PPE capstone program, which has produced impactful projects like UB Homework Helpers and Books for a Cause.
