Alexander Bien

Alexander Bien, MD, FACS, is an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), affiliated with the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. He holds the academic rank of Associate Professor and is actively involved in clinical practice, research, and medical education.

• Education: Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine (MD), University of Nebraska Medical Center (Otolaryngology Residency), House Ear Clinic/University of Southern California (Otology Fellowship).

His research focuses on Otology, Neurotology, and Skull Base Surgery, with a particular emphasis on cochlear implants, auditory injury modeling, and surgical innovations. Current funding from the Department of Defense supports his work on blast exposure effects and hearing protection mechanisms.

Dr. Bien has contributed to studies on auditory processing in children with cochlear implants, biomechanical modeling of the ear, and advanced surgical techniques for skull base pathologies. His publications highlight collaborations with multidisciplinary teams in Neuroscience, Medical Imaging, and Rehabilitation Sciences.

He serves as a Clerkship Director and Medical Student Career Advisor at OUHSC, participates in clinical competency committees, and moderates scientific sessions at the American Academy of Otolaryngology conferences. His roles include course direction for temporal bone dissection programs and panelist invitations for otologic discussions.
