Alex Scott

Alex Scott is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa. He holds a BA in Journalism from the University of North Texas, an MA in Photojournalism from the University of Missouri, and a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin. His research examines how visual media constructs social difference through race, gender, class, and ethnicity, with a focus on migration narratives and sports media representation.

• Teaches courses in Multimedia Storytelling (JMC:2020), Multimedia Narratives (JMC:3440), and Photography (JMC:3630).
• Research highlights include studies on U.S.-Mexico border imagery, ESPN's Body Issue, and TIME's opioid coverage.
• Previously worked as a photojournalist and photo editor at ABC News and Bloomberg News in New York.
