Alex Hall is a Professor in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at UCLA and Director of the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. He also serves as Faculty Director of the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge. His research focuses on reducing uncertainties in climate change impacts through regional climate modeling, downscaling techniques, and understanding climate feedback mechanisms. Hall leads the Center for Climate Science, producing neighborhood-scale climate projections for regions like Los Angeles and the Sierra Nevada. His work addresses extreme weather events, wildfire risk, and water management under climate change.
He contributed to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report and led California’s Fourth Climate Change Assessment. Awards include the AGU Atmospheric Sciences Ascent Award (2016) and the Turco Lectureship (2019). Projects include the California Climate Expedition, a bicycle initiative combining climate education and fundraising for research.
