Alejandro Lopez

Alejandro López Peceño is a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) within the Department of Political and Social Sciences. He is also a researcher and teaching assistant at New York University's Department of Politics, where he is completing his PhD.

Research Focus: Employs causal inference methods to investigate the rise of mass politics and its implications for political modernization. His work examines historical cases like 19th-century France to analyze how primary education and voting rights shaped democratic outcomes. Current projects explore state-actor conflicts, nationalism, ethnic conflict, and education expansion in political development contexts.

Affiliations: Member of the Max Weber Programme for Postdoctoral Studies at EUI, mentored by Elias Dinas.
