Alejandro Coello Calvo (born 25 July 1989) is a Spanish percussionist, composer and Professor of Percussion at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar (Franz Liszt College of Music) in Germany. He is also co-founder of the music and film company Art Government.
He has been invited as performer, lecturer, masterclass teacher and competition jury member by prestigious institutions across Asia, America and Europe. His works have been premiered at Carnegie Hall (New York) and the Berliner Philharmonie (Berlin).
Research & Creative Interests
- Percussion performance spanning classical, contemporary and jazz genres
- Original composition for percussion, chamber ensembles and multimedia projects
- Film scoring and audiovisual production via Art Government
Recent projects include the jazz album One Minute Later (with Diego Barber, Eric Harland and Ben Williams) and the percussion-centric album Percussion Theory (Sunnyside Records, 2019) featuring Simon Phillips, Diego Barber and Xabier Casals. Upcoming is the Revelations: A Percussion Opera.
