Alan Mathew is a Lecturer of Occupational Therapy within the Directorate of Allied and Public Health in the School of Health and Society at the University of Salford. He holds a Teaching and Learning Contract and serves in multiple administrative roles including Fitness to Practice investigator, Academic misconduct officer, and PMC reviewer. He is also an EDI link for the directorate and a member of the SEDIC committee, BAME staff collective, and Salford Proud.
His academic background includes an MSc and BScOT, with professional registrations including HCPC and MRCOT, and he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He is currently pursuing his PhD by Professional Writing under the guidance of Prof. Yeliz Prior and Dr. Simone Battista.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong interest in vocational rehabilitation for individuals with inflammatory arthritis, particularly through the WORKWELL programme. His work examines process evaluations from therapists' and line managers' perspectives and involves co-designing digital platforms in partnership with patients, the public, and health professionals.
Alan Mathew is actively involved in the professional community, having served as a regional lead for the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (NW region) from 2019-2024. His commitment to EDI and anti-racism extends beyond the university, making significant contributions to these important areas in occupational therapy practice.
Within the university structure, he is affiliated with the Centre for Human Movement and Rehabilitation, contributing to research and educational initiatives in this area.
