Alan Irwin

Alan Irwin is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Science, Technology and Society at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He holds a primary academic position as a professor in the Department of Organization at Copenhagen Business School. Irwin earned his PhD from the University of Manchester and has held full-time roles at Manchester, Brunel, and Liverpool Universities. His current research focuses on comparative research and innovation policies across China, Europe, and the USA, alongside examining the societal impact of business school research and the intersection of STS with innovation.

He is the principal investigator on a major project analyzing global research policies and collaborates with Professor Ulrike Felt on an upcoming Encyclopedia of Science and Technology Studies. Irwin has contributed to leading journals including Environment and Planning A, Minerva, Public Understanding of Science, and Research Policy.

His work bridges academic disciplines, emphasizing policy implications of scientific advancements and the evolving role of business schools in societal knowledge production.
