Dr Alan Huang is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Strathclyde’s Strathclyde Institute of Education. He joined in 2016 after completing a PhD in Education at the University of Edinburgh, funded by the Principal’s Career Development Studentship and Edinburgh Global Overseas Research Scholarship. He holds senior leadership roles, including University Senator, Senate Representative at the University Learning Enhancement Committee, and Institute Director of Postgraduate Taught Programmes. He is the founding director of the MSc TESOL & Intercultural Communication and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (International) programs.
His research focuses on Generative AI in education, second/foreign language education, and teacher professional learning. He has led projects on AI integration in language curricula and delivered invited training on GenAI for educators. He is a peer reviewer for journals like Language Awareness and Professional Development in Education.
Dr Huang teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, leading modules in language teaching, practitioner enquiry, and digital technologies. He has supervised 27 MSc/MEd, 11 BA, and 13 PGR students. His professional memberships include the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL), and Scottish Educational Research Association (SERA).
