Alan Galey is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto, cross-appointed to the Department of English. His research bridges media studies, book history, and digital textual scholarship, focusing on digital textuality and cultural heritage preservation. He holds a PhD from the University of Western Ontario (2006) and has held positions including SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow (2006–2008).
Research interests include born-digital bibliography, videogame paratexts, and digital archiving. Notable grants include SSHRC funding for 'Bibliographic Methods for Born-Digital Texts' (2018–2023). Awards include the Fredson Bowers Prize (2013) and the Leab Exhibition Award (2017) for curatorial work.
Teaching includes courses on digital culture, book history, and media theory. Supervised students include Ellen Forget. Leadership roles include membership in the McLuhan Centre for Culture & Technology and the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library Steering Committee.
