Alan Abrahamson is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice of Journalism at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. His expertise spans sports journalism, Olympic movement analysis, and media industries. He has taught courses such as Sports Reporting, 21st Century Sports Storytelling, and Directed Research since 2009, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches across sports, news, and law.
Abrahamson holds a B.A. in Journalism from Northwestern University (1980) and a J.D. from UC Hastings College of the Law (1987). His career includes 17 years at the Los Angeles Times (1989–2006) and roles as a columnist for NBCOlympics.com and UniversalSports.com (2006–2010). He is a member of the International Olympic Committee’s Press Committee and has advised on historic Olympic bid strategies, including the dual 2024/2028 Games award to Paris and Los Angeles.
His research focuses on the Olympic movement’s cultural and media impacts, reflected in his award-winning journalism and his website 3WireSports. Notable accolades include multiple Sports Emmys for digital innovation and the AIPS International Sportswriters Award (2021).
