Ala Younis is a Research Scholar at al Mawrid Arab Center for the Study of Art at New York University Abu Dhabi. She holds key roles including co-section head of Berlinale's Forum Expanded and Artistic Director of Akademie der Kunst der Welt (Cologne). Her practice bridges art, curation, and film, focusing on intersections between historical/political events and personal narratives.
Research interests include nationalism, global capital's cultural impact, and visual/popular culture dynamics. She employs architectural model-making techniques and publishing investigations to explore these themes. Notable projects include co-founding Kayfa ta publishing initiative (2012), curating the first Kuwaiti Pavilion at Venice Biennale (2013), and co-curating Singapore Biennale (2022).
Exhibition history includes solo shows across Amman, Dubai, Sharjah, New York, London, Seville, and Prague, alongside participation in major biennials (Venice, Istanbul, Gwangju, etc.).
