Akihiko Michimi

Akihiko Michimi serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography, Sustainability, Community, and Urban Studies Education at the University of Connecticut. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut, completed in 2008, and maintains an active academic appointment at the Storrs campus.

His scholarly work centers on interdisciplinary research spanning:

• Population health dynamics and determinants
• Advanced health surveillance data analysis methodologies
• Urban spatial patterns and economic geography systems
• Quantitative spatial statistics and modeling
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications

Professor Michimi teaches core undergraduate geography courses including GEOG 1200: Global Urbanization, which examines worldwide urbanization processes; GEOG 1700: World Regional Geography, providing comparative analysis of global regions; and GEOG 2100: Economic Geography, investigating spatial economic organization. His research integrates quantitative techniques with geographical frameworks to address contemporary urban health and economic challenges.
