Agostino Buono

Agostino Buono serves as Assistant Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Louisiana State University's School of Veterinary Medicine, joining the faculty in July 2024. A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (SAIM), he bridges clinical practice and translational research in gastrointestinal diseases.

His research focuses on gastrointestinal disease pathogenesis, particularly the triad of diet-microbiome-immune system interactions in conditions like chronic inflammatory enteropathy and protein-losing enteropathy. Current investigations include fecal microbiota transplantation safety profiles, dysbiosis metabolomics, and immune biomarker validation for inflammatory conditions.

Dr. Buono's scholarly impact is evidenced by publications in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine (7 papers 2019-2024), including a 2024 study on FMT immune effects and 2019 work on soluble CD25 assay development. His research program demonstrates strong translational potential for canine gastrointestinal therapeutics.
