Adrian Reyes-Prieto is an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of New Brunswick, focusing on the origin and evolution of photosynthetic organelles through comparative genomics and microbial diversity studies. Born in Mexico City, he holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and completed postdoctoral work at UNAM and U.S. institutions.
His research investigates plastid establishment via endosymbiosis, using genomic and metabolic analyses of algae and protists. Recent publications (2019-2025) cover glaucophyte plastomes, cyanobacterial toxins in Canadian lakes, and viral interactions in benthic mats.
