About
Dr. Adrian Elliott is an Ext-Funded Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide's School of Biomedicine, within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. He holds a National Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellowship and leads research on cardiac arrhythmias, particularly atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF). His work emphasizes exercise interventions in AF management and explores mechanisms linking physical activity to cardiac health in athletes and patients.
Dr. Elliott's research spans three core themes: 1) Exercise-based interventions for arrhythmias and HF, 2) Cardiac arrhythmias in endurance athletes, and 3) Pathophysiological mechanisms of arrhythmias and HF. He leads the EXIT-AF trial (exercise rehab post-AF ablation) and the LAST-AF study (subclinical HFpEF in AF patients). He also coordinates the Pro@Heart cohort study on elite athletes' cardiac remodeling.
He has secured over $4M in grants, presents internationally, and supervises PhD students in the Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders. His lab investigates left atrial dysfunction, HFpEF biomarkers, and exercise's impact on arrhythmia risk. Collaborations include SAHMRI, Royal Adelaide Hospital, and clinical trials like REDUCE-AF and PREDICT-STROKE.
