Adnan Madani is a Lecturer in Visual Culture at Goldsmiths, University of London, serving as Programme Leader for the MRes in Advanced Practices and co-Leader for the PhD in Advanced Practices. He is also an Adjunct Faculty member at Beaconhouse National University, Lahore, and holds roles at Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture (Karachi) and National College of Arts, Lahore. His research affiliations include the Centre for Critical Global Change.
Madani holds a PhD (2016) and MA (2006) in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths. His academic journey includes studies on Wittgenstein, Jean-Luc Nancy, and Talal Asad, focusing on continental philosophy, non-Western philosophies, and the anthropology of religion.
His research explores intersections between curatorial practices and justice, particularly in conflict zones and global exhibition frameworks. Key themes include incommensurability of cultural values, forms of life, and global secularism critiques. He also examines post-photographic imagery, violence representation, and art activism in transnational contexts.
Madani has contributed to multiple high-profile projects: co-authored a 2024 book on visual cultures, curated exhibitions like 'Art Sabka?', and served on selection panels for grants including CHASE (2022) and the British Council Digital Collaboration Fund (2020). He is currently an Advisory Board Member for the Suleman Annual Grant for Arts (SAGA) and on the Board of Studies for the MPhil in Art and Design programme at Indus Valley School.
