About
Huma Mulji is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of the West of England, working within the Art and Design department. Her practice spans sculptural installation, photography, collage, and drawing, critically engaging with globalization, migration, state power, and fractured histories through the lens of collective urban memory.
Education
- Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), 2018
- MFA in Creative Practices, Transart Institute, Donau Universität Krems, Austria, 2010
- BFA, Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi, Pakistan, 1995
Mulji's research investigates migration as metamorphosis, the right to illegibility/opacity, and the city as both site and subject. She examines contemporary visual art practices of the global majority and frames friendship as infrastructure for collaboration, amplifying discomfort through deliberately awkward works that serve as inconvenient witnesses to time and place.
Scientific Awards
- Abraaj Group Art Prize (2012)
- DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Visual Art Fellowship (2024-2025)
Her internationally exhibited work has appeared at MACBA Barcelona, Queens Museum New York, Venice Biennale, and Gwangju Biennale, with recent shows including Manzar (National Museum of Qatar, 2024) and Aftermath (KitForm Bristol, 2024). No information was provided regarding student advising, research grants, or laboratory/teams.
