About
Dr Aditya Narayanan is a Research Fellow in Physical Oceanography at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Department of Ocean and Earth Science under the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences. His work focuses on Southern Ocean dynamics and global climate impacts.
- Research interests include open-ocean polynyas, Southern Ocean heat transport, and Antarctic shelf processes
Using computer-generated models and in situ data, his research examines oceanic heat pathways in the Amundsen Sea, circumpolar circulation, cross-slope exchange mechanisms, and water mass transformation. Recent publications highlight Antarctic ocean-climate interactions, with emphasis on Maud Rise dynamics and thermohaline processes.
Current research trends involve:
- Quantifying salt/heat transport mechanisms
- Studying polynya formation processes
- Analyzing zonal current patterns
- Investigating warm-water intrusion impacts
- Linking ocean dynamics to global climate
