Adele Morrison

Dr Adele Morrison is a Senior Lecturer at the Research School of Earth Sciences, Australian National University. Her research focuses on Southern Ocean dynamics, Antarctic ice shelf interactions, and global climate modeling. She investigates ocean circulation changes, eddy impacts, and meltwater effects on abyssal overturning using high-resolution models.

Research Interests: Morrison studies Antarctic Bottom Water formation, Southern Ocean eddy dynamics, and climate change impacts on polar systems. Her work integrates satellite observations (e.g., GRACE, altimetry) with numerical simulations to understand processes like Circumpolar Deep Water intrusions and ice shelf stability.

Recent Work: Recent studies include observing Antarctic Bottom Water variability via GRACE data, modeling meltwater-driven abyssal slowdown, and quantifying Southern Ocean connectivity. She collaborates on projects like ISOMIP+ and the Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science.

Advising & Grants: Supervises projects on ocean feedback mechanisms and Antarctic shelf dynamics. Active in developing next-generation ocean-sea ice models (e.g., ACCESS-OM2) and assessing climate model resolution impacts.
