Adele Baruch is an Associate Professor of Counselor Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Southern Maine (USM), affiliated with the School of Education and Human Development. She has been teaching at USM since 2005 and previously taught at Syracuse University (2002–2005). Her academic journey includes a B.A. in Anthropology from William Smith College, an M.A. in Expressive Arts Therapy from Lesley University, and an MSW and Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Syracuse University.
Her research focuses on healthy adaptation under stress, particularly the adjustment of first-year college students and narratives of helping behavior during crises. This led to the Moral Courage Project collaboration with Auburn, Maine's school district. Teaching specialties include family systems, group counseling, expressive arts, and treatment planning. She pioneered the family systems curriculum in USM’s Counselor Education Program.
Outside academia, Adele is passionate about movement, dance, and music, alongside interests in family histories and storytelling.
