Adam Hooks

Adam Hooks is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Iowa, with a joint appointment at the UI Center for the Book. His research focuses on Shakespeare, book history, early modern poetry, and material text studies. He holds a PhD from Columbia University (2009) and an MA from Georgetown University (2003).

Key contributions include his book Selling Shakespeare: Biography, Bibliography, and the Book Trade (Cambridge UP, 2016) and the exhibition The Books That Made Shakespeare. Current projects include Faking Shakespeare (a study of authenticity and forgery) and Shakespeare’s Bones (a biographical exploration). He co-directs the Shakespeare Census, a digital humanities project cataloging early modern Shakespeare texts.

Teaching interests span Shakespearean studies, material book culture, and early modern poetics. He actively promotes public engagement through online resources and collaborative projects at the UI Center for the Book.
