Adam Branch is Professor of International Politics at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS). He previously served as Director of the Centre of African Studies (2017–2022) and was a Senior Research Fellow at the Makerere Institute of Social Research in Kampala. He holds a PhD in Political Science from Columbia University and a BA from Harvard University.
His research focuses on the politics of climate change, the political ecology of wood energy in East Africa, and broader themes in African politics, human rights, and development. He is the author of two influential books: Displacing Human Rights: War and Intervention in Northern Uganda and Africa Uprising: Popular Protest and Political Change.
