About
A.T. (Ad) Vermeltfoort is a lecturer at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), specializing in structural design and masonry engineering. He holds a degree in architectural engineering from TU/e, where his thesis focused on designing ship diesel engine factories and experimental studies on reinforced concrete beams. He served as an instructor at Pedagogisch Technische Hogeschool, training vocational educators, and was detached for four years to SWOP for developing educational tools like PCFrame software. He organized the 13th and 18th International Brick and Block Masonry Conferences, collaborating with industry partners such as the Masonry Foundation and QuakeShield.
Education:
- Bachelor/Master in Bouwkunde (Architectural Engineering) from TU/e under Prof. J.W. Kamerling
Research Interests:
- Seismic retrofitting of masonry structures
- Behavior of unreinforced and strengthened masonry walls
- Integration of composite materials (CFRP, FRCM) in construction
- Failure mechanisms and design models for masonry systems
Advising & Grants: Advised on over 150 buildings, including a notable showroom-magazine-office complex and a tennis club facility. Research funded by the Masonry Foundation and QuakeShield collaboration. Technical contributions to the Structural Design Laboratory and Laboratory for SED at TU/e.
Labs & Teams: Active in TU/e's Structural Design Laboratory and Laboratory for SED, focusing on experimental validation and analytical modeling of masonry systems.
