Dr Abraham Adu is a Lecturer in Finance at the University of Aberdeen's Business School, where he teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervises PhD students. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Hull and has previously served as Head of Finance Department and Lecturer in Finance and Economics at the same institution. His academic leadership includes shaping curriculum and accreditation standards, and he currently contributes to national finance education policy as Deputy Chair of the Subject Benchmark Statements for Finance (2024/25).

His research explores interdisciplinary themes such as the impact of political connections on gender pay gaps, peer effects in bank risk-taking, and the role of financial liberalization in emerging economies. These studies reflect a strong engagement with both theoretical and policy-relevant finance topics.
Dr Adu has received several academic honors and grants, including a Full Doctoral Scholarship from the University of Hull and the Otumfuo Education Grant. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Certified Quantitative Risk Manager. He also serves as a panel judge for the Annual Index Awards, recognizing excellence in financial market indices.
He supervises postgraduate research and has held various course coordination roles, including for MSc Finance (Online), International Banking, Financial Analysis & Markets, and the Master's Dissertation in Finance. He also acts as a personal tutor and external examiner at the University of East London. His industry consultation with AB & Partners Asset Management further strengthens the practical relevance of his teaching and research.
Dr Adu is affiliated with several professional and academic bodies, including Advance HE, the Ghana-European Scholarly Society, and the Quality Assurance Agency’s Subject Benchmark Statements for Finance.
