Abebaw Yohannes

Abebaw Yohannes is Professor of Physical Therapy at University of Alabama at Birmingham with joint appointments in Pulmonary Medicine. His research examines COPD, asthma, and chronic respiratory diseases in elderly populations, focusing on mental health comorbidities and rehabilitation interventions.

Research encompasses cognitive impairment, frailty, and cardiovascular-metabolic disorders through clinical trials of pulmonary rehabilitation and pharmacological therapies. His work has attracted over £6.3 million in research funding.

Publications demonstrate extensive work on depression-anxiety correlations in respiratory patients, with recent studies examining psychosocial support frameworks and frailty biomarkers. He serves as Associate Editor for Respiratory Medicine and has contributed to American Thoracic Society guidelines.
