Assoc. Prof. İrem Otay is a faculty member in the Department of Industrial Engineering at İstanbul Bilgi University, College of Engineering. Her research focuses on fuzzy decision-making, logistics, and sustainable supply chains. She teaches courses such as Quality Control and Management, Inventory Management, and System Thinking.
Education:
- Postdoctoral Researcher, College of Engineering, University of California Davis (2018–2019)
- PhD in Management Engineering, İstanbul Technical University (2015)
- MBA, Bahçeşehir University (2009)
- B.S. in Industrial Engineering, Yıldız Technical University (2006)
Her research interests include fuzzy multi-criteria decision making, reverse logistics, and humanitarian logistics. She applies advanced fuzzy mathematical programming to complex supply chain and sustainability problems.
The available publication indicates a strong trend in integrating spherical fuzzy sets into economic analysis of renewable energy systems, reflecting her expertise in handling uncertainty in decision-making contexts.
Scientific Awards:
- Best Paper Award at the 14th International FLINS Conference (2020) for work on solar energy investments using spherical fuzzy sets.
She has been involved in significant funded research projects, including those supported by TUBITAK and the U.S. Department of Transportation. She served as a researcher and later senior researcher in projects focused on reverse logistics and sustainable freight operations. She also mentors academic events as an organizing committee member of multiple INFUS conferences and symposia.
She is actively contributing to the academic community through organizing international conferences and publishing in fuzzy systems and logistics domains.
