İsmail Yılmaz is an Associate Professor at Gaziantep University, Faculty of Theology, Department of Fundamental Islamic Sciences. He has held academic positions since 2013, including Lecturer (2013–2020), Doctor Lecturer (2020–2025), and Associate Professor (2025–present). He teaches courses such as Comparative Islamic and Modern Law, Islamic Legal Methodology, and Current Fiqh Problems.
- Education: Doctorate in Basic Islamic Sciences (2019, Gaziantep University), Master’s in Fundamental Islamic Sciences (2014, Gaziantep University), Associate Degree in Theology (2010, Anadolu University), License in Theology (2000, Al-Azhar University; 2010, Harran University; 2022, Anadolu University).
His research focuses on Islamic Law, comparative legal systems, and the intersection of Islamic principles with modern economic and social policies. He has explored topics like social security through Zakat and negative income tax, personality disorders in Islamic legal contexts, and historical analyses of Islamic jurisprudence.
He has authored or co-authored 6 journal articles and 13 book chapters, primarily examining comparative studies between Islamic and modern law, legal methodology, and socio-economic applications of Islamic finance. His work often bridges classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary issues.
Yılmaz has also contributed to editorial roles in academic journals and books, including co-editing Gaziantep Üniversitesi 50. Yıl Armağanı. He has supervised one PhD student and three Master’s theses, focusing on Islamic law, Halal food criteria, and legal interpretations of Quranic narratives.
