معرفی
Associate Professor Özkan Duru has been a faculty member at Kırıkkale University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine since December 2024. He previously served as Assistant Professor (2008–2023) and Research Assistant (1995–2008) at both Ankara and Kırıkkale Universities. His academic home is the Department of Basic Sciences of Veterinary Medicine, where he leads biochemical investigations spanning animal health, reproduction, toxicology, and nutrition.
Education
- Doctor of Veterinary Biochemistry – Ankara University Health Sciences Institute, 2004
- DVM – Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, 1994
Research Interests
Dr Duru’s laboratory focuses on the molecular interface between metabolism and disease in domestic and laboratory animals. Core themes include:
- Oxidative stress biomarkers and antioxidant therapeutics (N-acetylcysteine, vitamins C & E, herbal extracts)
- Reproductive endocrinology—progesterone, prostaglandins, leptin, thyroid hormones, and IGF systems
- Pharmacological modulation of pregnancy recognition and neonatal immunity
- Environmental toxicology—heavy-metal contamination, fluorosis, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon carcinogenesis
- Phytotherapeutic control of parasitic diseases (ascariasis, cryptosporidiosis, haemoproteus)
- Epigenetic and nutrigenomic regulation of gene expression by dietary components
Publication Trends
Across more than 30 peer-reviewed papers (1997–2025), Dr Duru’s work exhibits a clear translational arc: early studies on milk composition and electrophoretic diagnostics evolved into mechanistic toxicology and reproductive biochemistry. Recent papers (2022–2025) concentrate on neuroprotection against chemotherapeutic insults, colostrum-mediated immunity in dogs, and innovative herbal antiparasitic strategies, reflecting an interdisciplinary approach that blends bench science with field-oriented veterinary medicine.
