Prof. Ömür Erçelen serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation at Koç University School of Medicine since 2007. He concurrently holds the position of Medical Director at VKV Health Institutes (2015–present) and previously served as Medical Director at American Hospital (2010–2015), while maintaining his role as Chief of Pain Clinic at American Hospital since 1998.
His academic foundation was established at Hacettepe University:
- Medical Education, School of Medicine (1981–1987)
- Anesthesiology and Reanimation Residency, Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation (1987–1992)
Prof. Erçelen's clinical expertise centers on General anesthesia, Algology (pain medicine), and Regional anesthesia, reflected in his active membership with the European Society of Regional Anesthesia, Turkish Association of Education, Anesthesiologists and Reanimation Specialists’ Society, and Turkish Society of Anesthesiology and Reanimation. His work bridges clinical practice with academic leadership in anesthesiology.
He has authored 50 scientific journal articles and 9 book chapters, demonstrating sustained contributions to anesthesiology literature with emphasis on pain management and regional techniques.
Prior to his current appointments, he served as Associate Professor (1997–1998) and Attending Physician (1993–1997) in the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation at Hacettepe University School of Medicine.
