Éva Pósfay is the Class of 1944 Professor of French and the Liberal Arts at Carleton College since 1991. Her expertise spans French classics, transnationalism, diasporic literature, and intercultural theory, informed by her upbringing as a 'global nomad' and academic background from Princeton University (PhD) and Bryn Mawr College (BA).

Her research focuses on multilingualism, border identities, and the history of Geneva, with particular interests in 17th-century French women writers like Lafayette and Montpensier, cross-cultural studies, and Francophone Swiss culture. She also teaches creative writing in French and leads off-campus study programs in Paris.
Academic Leadership: Served as Associate Dean of the College (2007-2011), mentors Posse Scholars, and tutors Latinx students in Northfield schools. She will direct Carleton's Paris programs in 2026 and 2027.
