Maria Ågren is a Professor of History at Uppsala University, Sweden, with a distinguished career spanning decades. Her work bridges legal history, social history, and economic history, focusing on early modern Scandinavian history, property law, and gender dynamics in European history. She has held academic positions since 1992, including roles as Lecturer, Researcher, and Assistant/Associate Professor at Uppsala University before becoming a full Professor in 2002.
Ågren’s research explores the cultural and legal dimensions of property, marriage practices, and inheritance systems in early modern Sweden. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates economic structures, community law, and state law.
Awarded multiple prizes for her contributions, Ågren is a member of prestigious learned societies, including the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities (2005) and the Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala (2006). Her work has been recognized internationally, with citations in major historical and legal studies.
