Ângelo Sil is a PhD Student in the BIODIV (Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution) program and a Research Fellow at CIBIO-InBIO, University of Porto. His work is supported by the SELINA project (Science for Evidence-based and sustainabLe decIsions about NAtural capital), focusing on sustainable natural resource management. Since 2014, he has contributed to multiple R&D projects addressing landscape dynamics, ecosystem services, and wildfire mitigation strategies.
He earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Geology from Universidade do Minho (2008) and a Master's degree in Management of Forest Resources from Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (2014). His academic foundation supports interdisciplinary research at the intersection of ecology and environmental management.
Ângelo's research applies advanced modeling tools to simulate how global change drivers—particularly land use/cover change and climate change—affect landscape processes, functions, and services. This work provides critical insights for managing fire-prone ecosystems. His expertise spans Landscape Ecology, Ecosystem Services, Wildfire Management, Climate Change impacts, Land Use Change analysis, Environmental Modeling, Ecological Change dynamics, and Biological Invasions.
As an active member of the ECOCHANGE and INVASIONS research groups at CIBIO-InBIO, he collaborates on interdisciplinary initiatives studying ecological transformations and invasive species. His current grant-funded role in the SELINA project demonstrates applied research directly informing evidence-based natural capital decisions.
