Álvaro Corral is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), having joined in Fall 2022. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at The College of Wooster. He holds a PhD in Government from the University of Texas at Austin (2017) with a graduate certificate in Mexican American and Latina/o Studies. His research focuses on Latino Politics, Immigrant Civic Incorporation, and Race & Ethnicity in American Politics. He co-leads the Ohio Immigrant Worker Survey Project and has published in Teachers College Record, Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, and Social Science Quarterly. He is a recipient of the 2023 Emerging Scholar Award (APSA Latino Caucus) and the 2019 APSA Fund for Latino Scholarship. He also contributes to policy discussions via blogs for the London School of Economics and The Washington Post.
Education: PhD (2017), MA (2015), and BA (2009) in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. Professional roles include serving as Communication Director for the APSA Latino Caucus and on the APSA Status Committee on Latinas/Latinos in the Profession (2024-2027).
