Devin Schweppe is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington. His research focuses on developing innovative proteomics approaches to understand protein interactions at a systems level, with particular applications in cancer research and drug development. Dr. Schweppe's research interests center on the interplay of chemical, cell, and systems biology through biologically-aware mass spectrometric technologies. His lab specializes in: Intelligent data acquisition in mass spectrometry Real-time database searching for spectral data analysis Quantitative proteomics of complex cellular matrices Protein-ligand interactions and small-molecule binding events Development of computational tools for proteomics (Nova, Helios, Orbiter) Large-scale proteomics databases (CysDB, XLinkDB, BioPlex, Oximouse) His current research focuses on cataloging how drugs interact with all proteins within cells, developing large-scale techniques for identifying both target and off-target protein-drug interactions that could lead to side effects, with particular emphasis on anti-cancer drugs in human cancer cell lines. His notable awards include: Pew Biomedical Scholar (2024) Andy Hill CARE Foundation Distinguished Researcher Cancer Consortium New Investigator Dr. Schweppe teaches GS 560 - Introduction to Statistical Genomics and GS 475 - Debates In Genetics. His lab actively recruits postdoctoral fellows with expertise in chemistry/biochemistry, cell biology, mass spectrometry/proteomics, or bioinformatics, and accepts graduate students through rotations in the Department of Genome Sciences and Molecular and Cellular Biology programs. The Schweppe Lab employs an interdisciplinary approach integrating cell biology, biochemistry, and proteomics to gain insights into protein regulation of essential cellular pathways, particularly in cancer contexts, developing cutting-edge approaches in computational and molecular biology to advance proteomics research.
