Professor Andrew Mackintosh is the Head of the School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment at Monash University. Previously, he held roles as Director of the Antarctic Research Centre and Professor of Earth and Climate Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand). He specializes in glaciology, climate dynamics, and ice sheet interactions, with a focus on Antarctic and New Zealand glaciers. His work includes numerical modeling and geochronological studies to understand past and future ice behavior. He has secured ~$10 million in research funding and led international projects like the ARC Special Research Initiative 'Securing Antarctica's Environmental Future'. Education: PhD (University of Edinburgh), BSc (Honours) (University of Newcastle), BSc (University of Melbourne) International Roles: Vice President of the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences, IPCC Lead Author, and IUGG Bureau member. Research interests include glacier-climate interactions, ice sheet stability, and climate change impacts. His work bridges field studies, modeling, and policy, with contributions to UN Sustainable Development Goals. Awards include the Prime Minister's Science Prize (New Zealand, 2020) and IUGG Fellowship (2019). Media engagement includes briefings for New Zealand political leaders and contributions to documentaries. He leads projects on glacier retreat and biodiversity, and ice sheet modeling teams. His research group uses advanced techniques like cosmogenic dating and drone technology ('Drone Discovery') for fieldwork.
