M. Engin Sanal is a Professor at Trakya University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations. He has held various academic and administrative positions at the university, including Department Head (since 1997), Deputy Head of Department (2005-2008), Associate Professor Representative of the Faculty Board of Directors (2019-2020), Professor Representative of the Faculty Board of Directors (since 2020), Head of Faculty Academic Counseling Unit (since 2022), and Program Self-Evaluation Commission Presidency (since 2024). He also served as Center Manager of the Risk Management and Corporate Sustainability Application and Research Center (2020-2024). Professor Sanal earned his Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degrees in Labor Economics and Industrial Relations from Istanbul University in 1989, 1991, and 1996 respectively. His doctoral thesis focused on "Contemporary Developments in Employment and Worker Brokerage and Paid Brokerage Practice in the Turkish Agricultural Sector." He was appointed Associate Professor in 2015 and became a full Professor in 2020, both at Trakya University. Professor Sanal's research primarily focuses on labor economics, industrial relations, trade union studies, and employment policies. His work examines gender discrimination in the workplace, occupational health and safety, child labor, modern slavery, and the effectiveness of labor unions. He has conducted extensive research on women workers in the textile sector, analyzing their union membership patterns and perceptions of gender-based discrimination. His studies also address active employment policies, public sector union rights, and the impact of globalization on industrial relations systems. His recent publications (2014-2025) reveal a consistent focus on labor rights, gender equality in the workplace, and trade union effectiveness. Professor Sanal has increasingly addressed contemporary issues such as modern slavery (2025), child labor in Turkey (2024), and the impact of the pandemic on remote work (2020). His research often employs case studies from specific Turkish regions (particularly Çorlu) and sectors (textile, metal), providing empirical insights into labor market dynamics in Turkey. Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences 2023 Academic Staff Service Award (May 2024) As an academic advisor, Professor Sanal has supervised numerous master's theses on topics including women's entrepreneurship in Turkey, glass ceiling syndrome in the workplace, gender discrimination perceptions among female lawyers, and labor unions' impact on occupational health and safety. His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Work Psychology, Working Life and Institutions, Industrial Relations, and Applied Collective Bargaining Law. He has contributed to various research projects, including "Union Organization of Female Workforce in Textile Sector: Çorlu Example" (2013) and "Human Resources Management Application in Public Enterprises in Türkiye" (2002). Professor Sanal has been actively involved in institutional development through his participation in various commissions and committees, including the Unit Academic Incentive Application and Review Commission, Education and Training Commission, and the Performance (Academic) Evaluation Directive and Criteria Determination Commission. His administrative leadership extends to his role as Center Manager of the Risk Management and Corporate Sustainability Application and Research Center (2020-2024).
