Greg Waite is a Professor in the Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences at Michigan Tech's College of Engineering. His research integrates seismology with geophysical and geological techniques to study active processes in the Earth's crust and upper mantle. Education: PhD in Geophysics, University of Utah MS in Geophysics, University of Utah BS in Mathematics, St. Norbert College Research Interests: Seismic source mechanisms of tectonic and volcanic earthquakes Mantle and crustal-scale seismic tomography Seismic anisotropy and fluid-strain relationships Triggering of earthquakes by magmatic and hydrous fluid migration Recent Article Trends: His recent work includes studies on volcanic seismicity (Fuego, Pacaya, Stromboli), lahars, infrasound detection, fluid dynamics in volcanic systems, and community-based hazard vulnerability assessments. Notable collaborations involve analyzing eruption dynamics (e.g., Kīlauea 2018, Pacaya 2021) and experimental modeling of volcanic processes. Teaching: Dr. Waite teaches natural hazards, earthquake seismology, and time analysis in geosciences.
