Fredrik Tell is Professor of Business Administration at Uppsala University since September 1, 2015, with additional affiliation as Professor at the Department of Economic History and the Center for Business History. He serves as chair of the department's scientific council and convenes the higher seminar. His academic career includes previous professorship at Linköping University (2009-2015). Education: Philosophical Bachelor (fil. kand.), 1994 Economic Licentiate (ek. lic.), 1997 Economic Doctorate (ek. dr.), 2000 Tell's primary research focuses on strategic work and the relationship between future and present, development of organizational knowledge and company capabilities, patent history, intellectual property rights, and technology markets. His work also examines digitalization's impact on development work, temporary and distributed organizational forms, and globalization in multinational business. He leads the Uppsala Patent History Group, which has produced significant research on historical patent data and Swedish patent history. His recent publications reveal strong trends connecting historical patent analysis with contemporary innovation challenges, particularly examining how digital transformation affects organizational routines and knowledge management. Tell's work bridges historical perspectives with current business challenges, especially in intellectual property management and multinational enterprise strategies. His research often employs interdisciplinary approaches combining business history, organizational theory, and innovation studies. His grant portfolio includes significant funding from Jan Wallander and Tom Hedelius Foundation, Lars Erik Lundbergs Foundation, and VINNOVA for research on patent history, technology markets, and digital transformation. He has led several research groups including the Uppsala Patent History Group and previously contributed to KITE, DRIM, EPOK, and MEKA research initiatives. Tell has been a visiting researcher at numerous prestigious institutions including Stanford University, London School of Economics, and University of Toronto.
