Professor Mohamed Abdel-Maguid is a Visiting Professor of Smart Systems at the University of Suffolk, affiliated with the School of Technology, Business and Arts. He has over 25 years of experience in academia and industry, focusing on innovation, enterprise, and knowledge exchange. Since 2012, he has led initiatives such as the New Anglia Digital Skills Accelerator and the Ipswich Waterfront Innovation Centre, generating over £12 million in external funding. Education: B.Eng. (Distinction) in Electronics and Telecommunications from AAST, Egypt; MSc. (Distinction) in Telecommunications Engineering from AAST, Egypt; PhD in Electronic Engineering (Image and Video Processing) from Staffordshire University. Professional qualifications include Fellowships from the Chartered Management Institute and the Institute of Innovation and Knowledge Exchange, alongside Senior Membership in the IEEE. Research interests span multimodal signal processing, smart systems for future cities, digital transformation, and technology-assisted learning. Notable projects include telemedicine advisory work for the Egyptian Ministry of Health and fraud detection systems for Tanzania’s tax authority. Awards include the UHNS Clinical Innovation Award (2010) and Lord Stafford Award (2009). Advising & Grants: Supervised over 25 postgraduate students to completion, contributed to international conferences, and advised governments and corporations on smart technologies. Key projects include the 3D Productivity Centre and STEM Centre at the University of Suffolk. Labs/Teams: Active in the New Anglia Digital Skills Accelerator (collaboration with BT Group), the Ipswich Waterfront Innovation Centre, and the STEM Centre.
