Christopher Edwards is an Associate Professor in Medical Radiation Sciences at Queensland University of Technology's School of Clinical Sciences. He serves as Course Coordinator for the Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound and holds a concurrent position as an Advanced Radiographer/Sonographer with MetroNorth Health District - Queensland Health. With extensive clinical experience spanning Australia and the UK, Dr. Edwards bridges academic and clinical practice in medical imaging. His educational background includes a PhD, Master of Applied Science (medical ultrasound), and Graduate Diploma in Applied Science, all from Queensland University of Technology. Dr. Edwards has been with QUT since 2009, progressing from Lecturer to his current Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor position since 2021, while maintaining clinical practice since 2007. Dr. Edwards' research focuses on advancing ultrasound technology applications, particularly shear wave elastography and quantification techniques for improved clinical diagnosis. His work spans placental research with the Queensland Family Cohort, liver fat quantification methods, and exploring AI applications in sonography. He investigates how technical advancements can translate to better patient outcomes while addressing workforce development challenges in the sonography profession. His recent publications (2024-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on both technical ultrasound advancements and professional practice issues. The research spans placental elastography, liver fat quantification, AI applications in ultrasound, sonographer training pathways, and clinical applications across obstetrics, paediatrics, and emergency medicine. This reflects his dual commitment to technological innovation and professional development in medical imaging. ASA Research Grant Recipient (2022) for Optimising Ultrasound-based Liver Fat Quantification Methods Fellow of the Australasian Sonographers Association (2020) Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy Former Chair and Board Director of the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry Dr. Edwards actively supervises multiple PhD and MPhil students, focusing on placental elastography, AI applications in ultrasound, sonographer training pathways, and liver fat quantification. His research is supported through collaborations with Mater Research, CSIRO, Queensland Health, and the Queensland Family Cohort. He is deeply committed to developing national accreditation standards and improving equitable training for sonographers while creating research pathways for clinical professionals. As Director of the Centre for Biomedical Technologies and through his leadership roles with the Australasian Sonographers Association, Dr. Edwards works at the intersection of clinical practice, academic research, and professional standards development in medical sonography.
