Dr. Michael Stoner is a Senior Lecturer in the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering at Clemson University, with affiliations through the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. His academic journey includes a B.Sc., M.S., and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Clemson University between 2015-2020. His research focuses on mass timber performance, sustainable structural design, and disaster resilience engineering. Key research areas include tornado-resistant timber structures, wind engineering, infrastructure durability, and material science applications. He has advised projects on cross-laminated timber (CLT) systems, culvert deterioration prediction, and seismic retrofitting strategies. Dr. Stoner teaches courses like Statics, Geomatics, and Structural Steel Design, and serves as ASCE Faculty Advisor. His publications span 2015-2024, with recent emphasis on CLT diaphragm behavior, hurricane modeling, and sustainable materials. Notable works include tornado hazard assessments for timber buildings and probabilistic models for North Atlantic hurricanes. He contributed to FEMA seismic assessment standards and SC DOT culvert rehabilitation guidelines. Dr. Stoner’s work bridges academic research and practical engineering challenges, particularly in resilient construction and infrastructure sustainability. His lab focuses on experimental testing of materials under extreme conditions, with applications in both traditional and emerging construction technologies.
