Professor HASHIMOTO Takashi is a leading academic in Knowledge Science and Co-Creative Intelligence at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo and has been a Professor at JAIST since 2009. His primary research focuses on the evolutionary origins and dynamics of language, symbolic communication, and institutional design, employing computational models, cognitive experiments, and mathematical analysis. He has held visiting researcher positions at institutions like Telecom ParisTech and Edinburgh University. His work bridges linguistics, cognitive science, and evolutionary biology, exploring how hierarchical structures and recursive processes underpin language evolution and social systems. Research interests include: language evolution, complex systems analysis, institutional ecosystems, cultural evolution, and recursive combination mechanisms. Notably, he develops cognitive models of grammaticalization and investigates the neural underpinnings of symbolic communication through EEG studies and synchronization theories. His interdisciplinary approach integrates agent-based simulations and social surveys to study institutional formation and societal dynamics. Key achievements include receiving the Outstanding Paper Award in 2014 and organizing major conferences like the International Symposium on Knowledge and Systems Science. His lab activities emphasize collaborative research and field experiments, with a focus on fostering students through intensive workshops and international collaborations. Current projects explore the adaptive role of recursive processes in material culture and the design of community currency systems to enhance societal resilience.
