Meltem Arikana Malkoc is an Assistant Professor at Karadeniz Technical University's Health Services Vocational School, specializing in Medical Services and Techniques. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry from Karadeniz Technical University (2001) and has been actively involved in academic research since 1993. Her research focuses on biochemical mechanisms in diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disorders, with particular emphasis on natural products like honey, propolis, and royal jelly. She has authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles and led several funded projects investigating bioactive compounds' effects on oxidative stress, inflammation, and organ toxicity. Education: PhD in Biochemistry, Karadeniz Technical University (1994–2001) Master's in Basic Medicine-Biochemistry, Karadeniz Technical University (1991–1994) Bachelor's in Biology, Karadeniz Technical University (1987–1991) Research Interests: Her work explores the therapeutic potential of natural compounds in managing diseases, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of mad honey, royal jelly, and L-theanine. Key topics include sepsis, diabetic complications, chemotherapy-induced organ damage, and cardiovascular biomarkers. She has pioneered studies on endoplasmic reticulum stress mitigation and wound healing in animal models. Grants and Projects: She leads and collaborates on projects funded by Turkish Higher Education Institutions, focusing on bioactive extracts' mechanisms in organ protection and disease models. Recent projects include investigating L-theanine's role in doxorubicin-induced toxicity and mad honey's anti-hypertensive effects. Affiliations: She serves in multiple academic roles, including Ethics Committee Head and member of curriculum development boards at her institution. She actively participates in international conferences and peer-review activities for journals like Journal of Food Biochemistry and Acta Cardiologica .
