Ufuk Balaman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Foreign Language Education – English Language Education at TED University, Ankara, Turkey. He leads the TEDU CAN (Conversation Analysis Research Group) and coordinates the DigiLTE project. His research focuses on multimodal conversation analysis in digital spaces, particularly in second language learning and teacher education. He has held visiting researcher positions at the Centre de linguistique appliquée, Université de Neuchâtel, and previously worked at Kırıkkale University and Hacettepe University. His educational background includes roles as an associate professor and instructor in English language education. His research areas span applied linguistics, CALL, and TBLT, with a focus on video-mediated interactions, online collaboration, and teacher education. He has authored a book on conversation analytic language teacher education in digital spaces and contributed to journals like System and TESOL Quarterly . Dr. Balaman’s work emphasizes the role of digital tools in language education, including virtual exchange, telecollaboration, and hybrid learning environments. He has advised 15 theses and actively engages in international projects and conferences. His recent studies explore interactional competence development, video-mediated pedagogy, and the integration of translanguaging in multilingual classrooms. He holds over 67 publications with a citation count of 344 (WoS) and an H-index of 12. His research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals and addresses challenges in technology-enhanced language learning and global educational equity.
