Idan Biran serves as a Postdoc (Researcher) in the Department of Physics at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), with core affiliation to the VISION - Center for Visualizing Catalytic Processes. His work bridges physics, chemistry, and materials engineering through advanced microscopy techniques. His research specializes in atomic-scale visualization of catalytic processes using environmental transmission electron microscopy (ETEM). He focuses on developing high-order imaged-corrected ETEM methodologies to observe dynamic atomic rearrangements in catalysts under operational conditions. This work provides unprecedented insights into reaction mechanisms at the nanoscale, with applications in sustainable energy and chemical production. Key techniques include in-situ gas cell microscopy and aberration correction for sub-angstrom resolution. The VISION Center provides specialized infrastructure including state-of-the-art electron microscopes capable of atomic-resolution imaging in reactive environments. Biran collaborates with an interdisciplinary team of physicists, chemists, and engineers to advance catalyst characterization methodologies. His research directly supports industrial applications in catalysis through partnerships with energy and chemical sectors.
