Brodan Richter serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of St. Thomas, joining in Fall 2025. He holds a PhD, MS, and BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and previously worked as a Research Materials Engineer at NASA Langley Research Center. His educational background includes: PhD in Mechanical Engineering, University of Wisconsin–Madison MS in Mechanical Engineering, University of Wisconsin–Madison BS in Mechanical Engineering, University of Wisconsin–Madison Dr. Richter's research expertise spans Additive Manufacturing, Powder Bed Fusion, Laser Welding, Metallurgy, Computational Materials, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Solidification, and Machine Learning & Data-Driven Modeling. His current work develops computational materials engineering techniques to understand process-structure-property-performance relationships for solidification-based manufacturing processes including powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, welding, laser remelting, and casting. He teaches undergraduate courses including Mechanical Engineering Graphics (ENGR 170), Engineering Materials (ENGR 361), and Senior Design Clinic (ENGR 480), where he guides student teams in developing engineering solutions for open-ended design projects while addressing ethical, social, economic, and safety considerations. Dr. Richter is affiliated with the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Center at the University of St. Thomas, contributing to facilities supporting student research and industry partnerships in advanced manufacturing.
