Mattias Borg Rasmussen serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Food and Resource Economics, Section for Global Development at the University of Copenhagen. His academic work bridges environmental studies, political ecology, and anthropology, with a focus on how resource governance intersects with community dynamics in times of ecological and social change. His research interests span climate change adaptation, environmental politics, indigenous-state relations, and frontier dynamics in resource extraction contexts. Rasmussen employs qualitative, ethnographic methodologies to examine how rural communities navigate territorial control, resource demands, and identity politics, particularly in Latin America. His work reveals how resources shape community imaginaries during periods of rapid ecological transformation. Rasmussen's recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory toward examining energy transitions, water politics, and conservation governance in Argentina's Patagonia region and Peru's Andes. His scholarship consistently addresses questions of environmental justice, public participation in resource management, and the political dimensions of climate change adaptation. Co-section editor on Political Ecology for Commodity Frontiers Journal Associate editor of Debates en Sociología (Peru) Member of Oxford Brookes University review committee Peer reviewer for multiple academic journals including Third World Quarterly and Climate and Development Rasmussen teaches MSc courses in Environmental Justice, Political Ecology, and Gender, Environment & Sustainable Development, supervising numerous thesis projects that employ qualitative approaches to environmental issues.
