Fergus Heron is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Art and Media, University of Brighton, specializing in landscape and urban photography through analogue processes. His work explores intersections between the man-made and natural environments, emphasizing stillness and photographic materiality. Education : PG Cert LTHE (University of Plymouth, 2006), MA Photography (Royal College of Art, 2000), BA (Hons) Photography (University for the Creative Arts, 1997) Research focuses on landscape photography as a disclosive practice, examining place, historical continuity, and the role of photographic technology. His methodology employs view cameras, color film, and darkroom printing to investigate realism and temporal ambiguity in visual representation. Exhibition activity (2007-2025) includes Tate Britain, Royal West of England Academy, and Brighton-based Phoenix Art Space. Publications include chapters in A Companion to Photography (2020) and Emerging Landscapes (2014), alongside edited works like Visible Economies (2012). Conference engagements span international presentations on photography's relationship with architecture, landscape, and memory at institutions including Sheffield Hallam University (2018) and Plymouth University (2014-2016).
